Ever since I was in the third grade I wanted to wear glasses. I had a friend who wore them and I thought they made her look so smart. Unfortunately, my eyesight was always perfect. Since college I have considered buying a pair of glasses with just plain glass lenses. You know, just to look smarter, but I could never justify the cost of such an expensive accessory.
But things started looking up after a year of law school. I occasionally had some trouble reading the white board if I was at the back of the lecture hall. So I went to my ophthalmologist, Josh’s dad, for a check up. He said that my eyesight wasn’t perfect anymore, but that I didn’t really need any correction. I was so disappointed. Now however, after two more years of law school and several months of studying for the Bar Exam, my eyesight has grown worse. I really do blame law school. I think it was all the book reading and staring at a laptop screen all day long.
Over the last couple of months, I have really noticed the difference in my vision. I can’t read the small print on a menu board at a restaurant and I have had trouble reading DVD menus on my tv screen from across the room, especially if it is a small and unusual font. So I had been meaning to go back to Josh’s dad for another check up, but after months of talking about it I just hadn’t done it. I would need to get a babysitter and then drive to his office which is about thirty to forty-five minutes from our house. It just seemed like a pain so I let it go for a few months.
Then two weeks ago, I happened to have an appointment with my regular doctor for a check-up, which is just down the street from our place. While I was there I mentioned to her that I felt like I was getting old because my eyesight was getting worse. She offered to call downstairs to the optometry center at the hospital and get me appointment. About twenty minutes later I was getting my eyes checked and getting a prescription for my very first pair of glasses.
I was thrilled, but I agonized over choosing the right frames! I went back and forth and back and forth between three different pairs and finally decided on a pair I liked. They were a reasonably priced frame, but with the lenses they were still painfully expensive. But at least I could finally justify the cost, seeing that I’ve gone blind (actually it is not very much of a correction, but what a difference it makes).
In the week from when I ordered them to when I picked them up I became very anxious and regretted not bringing a friend along to tell me if they looked right. It is such a big commitment and really changes how your face looks. But when I picked them up I was relieved. I was so happy with the pair I had chosen. I really think they fit my face well. I think they make my very round face look a little longer and thinner. And, my goodness, how brilliant I look in them. It’s like my IQ goes up at least 20 points as soon as I put them on my face. I am quite pleased.
Here are some shots of me modeling them with a few different looks:
The Woman About Town
Mommy on the Go
All Business
In addition to looking fabulous, I can now see! I had no idea what I was missing. It really was an incredible difference. Everything was suddenly in focus no matter the distance. I had no idea that I should be able to see each individual leaf on every tree. It was really just amazing, but more importantly don’t I look cute and smart?

Adorable! My favorite is “All Business” – it makes me want to actually work whilst at work!
that’s similar to what I experienced with glasses….I really wanted to be the Woman about Town but couldn’t justify spending the money.
Also, my eye doctor said that people’s eyesight usually starts to change during their mid-20’s. I first started noticing it at night when I would drive I couldn’t read any of the freeway offramp signs until I was literally right underneath them, which made going anywhere new a huge and dangerous pain in the boot.
Your frames look really nice.
Good choice! They are cute. I also got reading glasses just a few months ago. My sight was not bad either, but it does make such a difference when looking at a computer screen especially. I will have to show them to you when I see you.
Can you please tell me what brand and style are you glasses. I have a round face and can never find the perfect glasses. You look good on it!
For Sharon and anyone else interested,
The glasses are Calvin Klein CK 5510 in Tortoise.
An interesting story & one that lots have had. You look really great in your glasses so keep wearing them. Dont strain your eyes.
A friend of mine who had worn glasses since she was 11 got married to a fellow glasses wearer. She is not severly myopic but does need them. At the wedding her mother said she should take off her glasses so as to show off her nice almond shaped eyes. She did so but found it as strain & ended up with a headache. Richard wore his glasses..
When the wedding pictures came back she was horrified to find all the pictures showing her squinting at the camera apart from one. This was a facial close up showing off her nice myopic eyes & hangs in their lounge. Have any one else had this problem & endured eyestrain at a wedding?
I wear glasses mainly for close up work & cant read, use a mobile phone etc.
You can look nice with glasses Paulette now has smart red. glasses to go with her red hair & looks great.
