Eleanor Busts Her Face

Posted by: Maggie

Saturday morning, just after breakfast, Eleanor decided that she would try out a fun new trick, hanging from the tray of her highchair, with disastrous results. She stood in front of the highchair, reached up, and hung from it for a moment and then stood up excited about her new trick. Both Josh and I told her not to do that, and I stood up to walk over and stop her, when she did it again. This time things did not go so well. The highchair tipped forward, Eleanor fell backward and the highchair came down tray first right on her face. I swooped in and lifted it off of her and picked her up as she cried and cried.

She calmed down fairly quickly and we were able to get a good look at her. She had a pretty good sized bump over her eyebrow and a cut just below her eye, and the area around her eye was starting to swell up. We decided that we should take her into urgent care to make sure she hadn’t done any serious damage to her eye or broken her cheekbone, or gotten a concussion from the fall.

She was absolutely fine, and had a pretty great time in the exam room looking at the breast exam pamphlet, saying “nekked, nekked…boobies!”

Then we got a thirty dollar prescription for antibiotic eye ointment. A little ridiculous. It was not really necessary, we used it about four or five times until we didn’t need it anymore.

We thought that she was going to have a huge black eye and that everyone would think that she was in a street brawl. But, fortunately, she is a quick healer and it never got much worse looking. It is almost gone now, it’s just a little yellow looking under her eye and that’s all. Lucky girl.
