A Zombie Halloween

We had a pretty fantastic Halloween this year. It began with Josh running out to get us bagels for breakfast while I got Eleanor her Oatmeal and toast (she is obsessed with toast lately, toast and sweet potatoes). I found It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown on You Tube for us to watch while we had our breakfast. Eleanor was not really interested. I think it’s a little to subtle and low-key for her at this age. I loved it, of course! We are big Charlie Brown fans in this house. I can’t wait for Christmas so we can watch A Charlie Brown Christmas with my all time favorite holiday music. Vince Guaraldi is the best!

After breakfast, showers, and some lazing about the house, we took a quick trip to Target to look for a new coat for Josh. He has been freezing in the mornings waiting for his bus. We left with a new sweater but no coat and a couple DVDs for Eleanor. We headed home, had lunch, then put Eleanor down for her nap.

While she slept Josh and I carved the pumpkins, roasted the seeds and watched The Lost Boys. I just love carving pumpkins! So much fun! Eleanor got up while we were still working so we got her a snack and put on Disney’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow which I also found on You Tube. This one she loved. It has lots of great songs and people acting goofy, much less subtle than Charlie Brown. She wasn’t frightened at all by the headless horseman. So far there isn’t really anything that scares her. Although she doesn’t like it when people are crying or angry, and she gets very upset when people make a mess with food (that, by the way, doesn’t stop her from making food messes herself). And sometimes dogs make her nervous, but no other fears so far.

Once we finished the pumpkins (I’m saving our pumpkin carving photos for Wordless Wednesday), we started getting into costume and make-up for trick-or-treating. We went as a Zombie family this year, because 1) it was the quickest, easiest, and cheapest costume I could think of, 2) Zombies are awesome, and 3) I know this will probably be the last year Eleanor lets us pick a good costume for her (those princess and fairy costumes are out there waiting for me, mocking me, oh how I hate them). Also we taught her to say, “Brains…Brains…BRAINS!!” and that is just too cute to pass up. Zombie toddlers are the best.

A Couple of Casual Zombies

We walked to some houses nearby and just did a block up and back. Eleanor did a pretty good job with trick-or-treating. She said “trick-or-treat” a few times, mostly she said “Candy? I want Candy! Thank You!” She’s always good about her thank yous. She also threw out a few “Happy Halloweens.”

It was a pretty successful Halloween. Eleanor got a bucketful of candy (I’ll talk about our candy policy tomorrow), and we had fun walking with her, I’m looking forward to next year when we can go a little later and stay out longer. I just love trick-or-treating and seeing all of the kids in their costumes.
