Happy Chinese New Year!

I meant to post my resolutions on the regular New Year, but didn’t get around to it so here are my resolutions for Chinese New Year:

  • Take the Bar and Pass this time
  • Lose the rest of the weight I’ve been trying to lose. I’ve lost about 25 lbs since Eleanor was born (35 if you count giving birth) and I’d like to lose at least another 15 lbs
  • Get out of credit card debt
  • Buy a better camera (this may conflict with the previous resolution)
  • Take photography up again (it was a pretty serious hobby of mine in high school, I actually was seriously considering art school and wanted to be a fashion photographer for awhile, but my plans changed at some point, I couldn’t really afford it as a hobby anymore back in undergrad, and I never switched my skills from film to digital so all I have now is a digital point-and-shoot camera and not a nice digital SLR like I want, my 17 year old self would be very disappointed in me.)
  • Get a job (this will make most of the others possible)
  • Have a night out with friends at least once a month (after I’m done studying for the Bar).

Wish me luck (or maybe just better will power)!

Oh, and check out the pics from regular New Year’s Eve with The Schuberts here. We had so much fun watching When Harry Met Sally and The Little Mermaid (Andrew’s choice). Love those guys!

One of the reasons why I love the holidays so much is that we get to spend time with our oldest and dearest friends. Some of these friends live in the area but we don’t get to see often enough because of our busy lives and others have moved away from California since high school and only come to visit their families once or twice a year.

The first visit of the holiday season was Betsy and Justin’s holiday party at their new house in Silver Lake. Eleanor wore her fanciest party dress. Betsy and I have been friends since junior year of high school and Betsy and Justin were high school sweethearts so I have known Justin for about as long as I have know Betsy.

Last week Rachel was visiting from Albany where she just graduated summa cum laude from SUNY Albany. I have know Rachel since Junior High, but became close friends with her in our Junior year of high school. She once predicted that we would only stay friends through college. She has clearly been proven wrong.

Leslie was also home that week visiting from Vancouver where she lives with her Canadian husband Mike. Leslie and I also became good friends in high school, my Junior year and her Sophomore year. We lived together for a year while we were in college. That didn’t work out very well. We are great friends, but incompatible roommates.

The three of us went out for drinks and a Pizookie at BJs as is our tradition when we are all in town.

We had so much fun catching up on what everyone has been up to and reminiscing about high school.

Brian, Josh’s best friend, was also in town. Brian and Josh have been best friends since high school. They have always been able to bond over their respective dysfunctional families, mutual love of Radiohead and disgust with their hometown. Brian lives in Philadelphia where he is working on his History PhD at the University of Pennsylvania.

Brian’s sister Lauren sent Brian with a gift for Eleanor, pig ears so she could be just like her favorite literary character Olivia.

We usually only get to see Brian once when he visits, but because he is single this year we got to see him four times! We were so happy to be able to spend so much time with him. He is easily our smartest and most entertaining friend. Did I mention he’s single ladies? During his visits he regaled us with riveting tales of internet dating and made us thank our lucky stars that we are not single.

We finished off the holiday season with a New Year’s Eve movie night with the Schuberts, who seem to be in our blog a lot lately. I think they were pretty disappointed when they arrived and Eleanor was already in bed.

We had pomegranate bellinis, gin neat, cheese and crackers, cheesecake, and bon bons while watching my very favorite New Year’s Eve movie, When Harry Met Sally.

Andrew and I have been friends since my Sophmore year of high school which was his Junior year. He and I spent pretty much every Friday night at Betsy’s house and every Saturday night at his house watching movies for about two years of high school. Until last night, I don’t think that we had watched a movie together since.

Andrew met his wife Amy at Michaels where Andrew, Amy, and I worked along with Leslie and a few of our other friends for a few years after high school.

Andrew and Amy moved to Arizona a year or two after high school and only recently moved back. I am so glad that we were able to stay friends despite the distance and that we are able to see them so much more often now that they are back in LA.

We are thankful to have all of these dear friend in our lives and to be able to spend the holidays with them. We love you guys!

Happy New Year!
