If you follow my twitter feed or Josh’s, you’ve already heard that we are have been staying at a hotel since Saturday because of a mold problem in our apartment.
This is my excuse for not posting all week, and here’s the story, or some of it for now:
Friday evening I was picking up around the house in anticipation of Josh’s arrival home from work. I walked over to Eleanor’s little desk/art table in the living room to pick up the bucket of crayons she had knocked over. As I picked them up I noticed that the carpet felt wet. So I moved the table and the art supplies to see where the water was coming from.
I found this:
Ahhhh! Mold! Holy crap! Disgusting!
This wall is shared by the hot water heater closet out on the patio, so I immediately checked in there and found this:
More mold, and about 1/4 of water! Fun!
I called the maintenance staff, they came, checked it out, and told me that a plumber would come out that night to replace the hot water heater, and then someone would be out in the morning to pull out the carpet and and get rid of the moldy drywall. Great, right?! Sounded good to us!
So we spent the night, like four hours or so, emptying the bookcases on the adjoining wall, unbolting them from the wall, and then taking them apart to trash them (and some of our books) BECAUSE, THIS is what we found behind them:
Oh God, I think I’m going to be sick! It was so disgusting! I wanted to move out immediately! But cooler heads prevailed (Josh’s obviously) and we stayed for the night to see if the maintenance staff would fix our grotesque problem.
And that’s where the fun really began! More tomorrow!
And for fun here’s a lovely artistic close-up of the MUSHROOM that was growing in my CARPET in my LIVING ROOM, where I LIVE and work, EVERY SINGLE DAY! Excuse me while I vomit now!
