I apologize for the unannounced week off of blogging! I was sick in bed with the flu or food poisoning or something. I started feeling sick on Monday, started throwing up on Monday night, and pretty much didn’t stop until Thursday night. I ate almost no food all week long. My first actual meal in a week was breakfast on Saturday. Josh had to take a day off work and my brother Emmett had to come watch Eleanor one afternoon. I just could not handle my super hyper toddler while I was feeling so terrible.

But I’ll be back to blogging this week, probably with multiple posts on some days. We’ll see. I have some catching up to do. Although I also have work to catch up on, so we’ll see how much time I have this week.

For now, and just for fun here is a list of sounds that I love:

High heels clacking on a wood or concrete floor (I seriously looooove this sound! I think it’s because it reminds me of when I was little and my mom would leave early for work and I would hear her walk down the hallway to my room to kiss me goodbye.)

A Camera Shutter

The Wind

The Rain

Thunder (I remember when kids in my class in Elementary school were afraid of thunder and I just loved it. It sounded so powerful and ominous.)

An egg cracking

All Train sounds

A match lighting

Gravel crunching under foot

Josh had to work on Saturday so Eleanor and I went over to visit my dad and step-mom, Grandpa Keegan and Grandma Leila. Eleanor’s Uncle Elliott was also there to visit with us.

Eleanor was excited to get to see the doggie up close. We have been wary about having her near big dogs, but now that she’s getting bigger and we know this dog is good with kids I felt okay about letting her meet the dog.

As usual, when meeting new friends Eleanor must point out their nose to them.

After meeting the doggie, Eleanor decided to give Grandpa a work-out by letting him chase her around the yard.

Before heading home for a nap we sat for a few minutes enjoying the sunshine with Grandma Leila.

I know that most people hate them because they set fire to Southern California every fall. Despite this unfortunate effect, I love the Santa Anas.

“Those hot dry winds that come down through the mountain passes and curl your hair and make your nerves jump and your skin itch. On nights like that every booze party ends in a fight. Meek little wives feel the edge of the carving knife and study their husbands’ necks. Anything can happen.”

— Raymond Chandler, “Red Wind”

“Los Angeles weather is the weather of catastrophe, of apocalypse, and, just as the reliably long and bitter winters of New England determine the way life is lived there, so the violence and the unpredictability of the Santa Ana affect the entire quality of life in Los Angeles, accentuate its impermanence, its unreliability. The wind shows us how close to the edge we are.”

— Joan Didion, “Los Angeles Notebook”
