New Year’s Eve

Posted by: Maggie

We celebrated New Year’s Eve with a little movie night with our friends the HoodLims. As has become our tradition, we watched my favorite New Year’s Eve movie When Harry Met Sally.

p.s. Kristy is expecting a little baby HoodLim in February. For next week, you can look forward to photos from their baby shower and from the Maternity Portrait Session I did for them last weekend.

Super Big Girl Time: Eleanor’s 2 Year Doctor’s Visit and Her First Real Dentist Appointment

Posted by: Maggie

I just realized that I never posted about Eleanor’s 2 Year Check-Up! Well, our pediatrician says she seems to be doing great. He was very impressed by how much and how well she talked. He laughed and said that he didn’t need to ask the developmental questions after he heard her ask Josh, “What’s that?…Oh, that a tissue box, Daddy?”  As usual she was a real tough guy for her shot. No screaming, no tears, no nothing, not even a flinch! What a tough guy!

So, it’s official, Eleanor will be a giant. She is now 37.5 inches tall and weighs 24 lbs. This puts her in the 99th percentile for height, and only 15th percentile for weight. And you know what that means, yup, it is impossible to find pants that fit her! She is the average height of a 3 year old and the average weight of an 18 month old. She’s still tall and thin, just like her Daddy. Word on the street is that if you double a person’s 2-year-old height you can predict their full grown adult height. That would be amazing! This little one would be 6′3″! Yikes that is just too tall! We’ll see!

Last week Eleanor had her first real dentist appointment. If you remember, last January she fell and hurt her mouth so we had a quick emergency dentist visit then. But last week we had the first normal dentist appointment. Which meant that the hygienist, who was so nice and good with Eleanor, showed her all of the tools, and then the dentist came in and counted her teeth and told me to make sure to keep brushing her teeth myself until she is 6! I don’t know about that, I feel like she could learn to do a good job herself before then, but I guess we’ll see.

2010 Resolutions: 6. Get Happier

Posted by: Maggie

The last year or so has been a little rough for me. I just haven’t quite been my usual optimistic self. I wouldn’t say I’ve been depressed, because I’ve never been clinically diagnosed with depression, but I will say that I’ve been suffering through a long bout of melancholy. This is not so unusual for me, I’ve struggled in the past, but it has never been so prolonged. I’m not going to be more specific about it, but I will say that I’m pretty sick of feeling so down and I’d like to do something to change it.

I’m not entirely sure what to do about it. I think that some of the causes just aren’t really things that can be fixed, or at least not any time soon. But I do know that there are some contributing factors that can probably be addressed.

I recently started reading the Happiness Project blog and I’ve become convinced that I should start my own Happiness Project. The blog’s author, Gretchen Rubin spent a year working on her own Happiness Project and wrote about it in her book by the same name that was just published and is now on the bestseller list. Josh just bought me the book as an early birthday present (my birthday is Feb. 5) and I decided to follow along with her month-by-month journey in the book. She is also hosting a Happiness Challenge on the blog that is going to follow her strategy in the book.

So each month I’ll write a post at the start of the month about the strategy for the month and then I’ll post again at the end of the month to let you all know how it’s going.

I’m going to follow Gretchen’s strategies, but I’m obviously going to have to alter them to suit myself. While I think that I have some similar problems as Gretchen, I think that I’ll have my own different stuff to work on as well. So I’ll be making some adjustments as we go.

I’ll get in my first month’s post later this week. Wish me luck!
