How is potty training going? Lets just say that it is not going, not going at all. arrrgggh.
The week following our potty training weekend I gave Eleanor a lot more naked baby time, in which she peed on the carpet several more times and never once used the potty. Whereas when we began our potty training adventure Eleanor seemed interested in using the potty, during the following week she showed no interest and really an extreme disinterest. It seemed that the more Josh and I seemed to want her to use the potty the less she wanted to. I think it has a lot to do with her very independent personality. I tried to play it cool and just do as the book said–walk her to the potty every hour and try to get her to sit on it without any pressure or cajoling. Well, she did not want to walk to the potty and when she did she wouldn’t sit on it. She instead wanted to wash her hands or sit on her bathroom stool and read a book.
So we’ve decided to once again hold off for a little while and then attempt a different technique. She starts daycare part-time next week (more on that to come), so we think we’ll wait until she has settled in there to try again. The books all say you shouldn’t attempt potty training during any big transition periods. We had hoped to get her started before beginning daycare, but since it’s not working out right now, we’ll just wait.
The truth is I don’t think I’m great at this part of the whole Mommy thing. I’m not sure I have the patience for it. Uggh. We’ll see…
