Our little friend Mookie turned the big O-N-E this weekend and we joined him for a birthday in the park!

After blowing out his candle (well, watching mommy blow out his candle), he eyed the frosting suspiciously.

Two Sundays ago we attended the birthday of Josh’s cousin Diana. She threw a big party in honor of all her friends and family at the Brandeis-Bardin campus of the American Jewish University. The location was beautiful with lovely trees and hills and craftsman style buildings.
The party began outside with music, a bar, and delicious passed appetizers (my favorite).

The musicians were fantastic! They even played “It’s a Small World” just for Eleanor.”
After appetizers we moved inside where Diana introduced everyone.
There was more music, dancing, and lunch.
We were at the baby table.
We finished off Josh’s birthday bonanza at our favorite Mexican restaurant, Sierra’s in Canoga Park. It was my favorite part of the day since it meant that I didn’t have to cook dinner for a change.
Eleanor had to examine the children’s menu carefully before deciding on the bean burrito.
After filling up on their delicious chips and salsa, Josh and I split our favorite enchilada.
I surprised Josh with the old “I’m going to use the restroom before we order (and then tell the hostess that it is your birthday)” trick. So we had some awesome birthday singing and yummy flan. Unfortunately, they didn’t do anything too embarrassing like putting a sombrero on his head, just some enthusiastic happy birthday singing.
