Cranky Cooking: Breakfast Yogurt with Berries & Granola

Posted by: Maggie

This is perfect for a warm summer morning. I started eating this sometime last summer I think when my friend Kristy suggested it in a comment to a post where I mentioned that I’m not a fan of breakfast foods, but know that I need to eat breakfast to stay healthy and lose weight. This recipe is super delicious and super healthy.

It’s just Greek Yogurt topped with Berries and Granola. I start with a low fat plain greek yogurt, it’s pretty low in sugar and very high in protein. Perfect for a healthy breakfast. Then I top it with mixed berries. Here’s the crucial step though. You need to use frozen mixed berries and defrost them in the microwave at half power. This warms them just a little and creates all this delicious berry juice that turns your plain yogurt into berry yogurt. So good! Then for some crunch and a little fiber top it with just a little granola. I like Trader Joe’s Low Fat Granola Cereal with Almond.

Try it! You won’t be sorry!

My 29th Birthday!

Posted by: Maggie

Sorry for the posting delay! Last week was hectic finishing up my preparations for my How to Shoot Your Kids Workshop, and with Josh and Eleanor both getting sick. Not fun! Although, Josh is still not well and I’ve had a sinus headache for 3 days that doesn’t want to go away, I’m back to posting about my birthday celebrations!

The morning of my birthday we went out to breakfast at The Egg Plantation with my dad, step-mom, brothers William and Elliott, and Elliott’s girlfriend Lily.

Apparently, my choice of restaurant was perfect, because they give you a free breakfast on your birthday! And the coffee is good! Score!

After breakfast we said goodbye to the family and went on a little craft store shopping trip for some Valentines supplies. And then to pick up some birthday cupcakes, because according to Eleanor, birthdays=cupcakes, of course!

We tried out a new cupcake place in town, Bake You Happy. It’s very cute and the cupcakes are awesome, and I don’t even like cake!

We shared a banana cupcake there, soooo good! And brought three more home for my birthday night dessert!

Later in the day Josh and Eleanor gave me my birthday gifts!

Josh got me a book I’ve been wanting for a long, long time. It’s a collection from my favorite photographer, Cindy Sherman’s series, “Untitled Film Stills.” They are a series of amazing self-portraits. I’ll write a whole post about it soon!

Eleanor (with Josh’s help) got me some yummy butterscotch chews from See’s. Tasty!

We had our weekly family movie night and for dessert we had the cupcakes we had brought home!

A Chocolate Cherry Licorice (an amazing combination of chocolate cake filled with melted red licorice, topped with pretzels and marshmallow–incredible!), Snickerdoodle (like the cookie, a yummy cinnamon spiced cake the uneaten half was delicious with coffee the following morning!) and a Heavenly (a gourmet grown-up version of a Hostess Cupcake, delicious chocolate cake, with marshmallow filling topped with dark chocolate ganache–awesome!)

Happy Birthday to me!

Thanksgiving Part One: Breakfast!

Posted by: Maggie

So, I’m sorry about last week, but I’m back and we have a full week of posts ready to go for this week!  And actually, I split up my Thanksgiving photos into four posts, but I don’t want to drag a single holiday through this entire week, so I’ll be double posting today and tomorrow. This should make up for the lack of posts last week, right? Seven whole posts in five days! Pretty exciting stuff! On to Thanksgiving:

We started out Thanksgiving with Josh making a very special holiday bagel run!

Eleanor got a pumpkin bagel.

Josh got some sort of cheese bagel with herby cream cheese. It was really good.

I had an egg bagel with pumpkin cream cheese, delicious, but a little too sweet.

I also had some chai tea and topped it off with whipped cream because we had it in the fridge and we never have whipped cream in the fridge. Oh, and that’s my “I Survived Andrew & Amy’s Wedding” mug, super cute wedding favor right? It may be the only wedding favor that I have ever kept and used. Thanks guys!

We found A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving on YouTube to watch while we had breakfast. Eleanor loved it! Which was a surprise to me since she had no real interest in It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. She has been asking to watch “Carly Bown” ever since.

Breakfast was followed by some hanging around the house in our pajamas and then a nap for Eleanor and off to my dad’s for an early afternoon dinner.
