Christmas Eve 2011

I swear I’m going to get all my holiday posts up before January is over! I’m working on it!

Christmas Eve was about the same as usual. We went to my Dad’s place where he had all the extended family over. Baby Jack, as Eleanor always calls him, not just Jack, always Baby Jack, seemed a little overwhelmed by all the people and things to look at.

In the middle of dinner we were surprised by the choir from a local high school. My aunt had hired them to come and sing some carols for us. They were actually pretty good. It was kinda cool!

The extended family took off after dinner and our white elephant gift exchange. Once everyone had gone we opened our gifts. My brothers got their usual matching shirts, which is always pretty funny when we get to the third brother opening the same thing. I wonder what it will be!

Maria and I also got some matching t-shirts too.

Even Baby Jack opened some gifts. He was pretty excited about the wrapping paper.

It had gotten pretty late by the time we were done, and Eleanor passed out before we left. We got her home and straight into bed. And even though she was asleep I still managed to remember to put out some milk and cookies for Santa!

Christmas morning will be up tomorrow (probably)!

As usual we spent Christmas Eve with my Dad and his side of the family.

We went to my Dad’s house in the afternoon for drinks, appetizers, and gift exchanging.

The gifts were mostly wine and gift cards! The best kinds! Except for Eleanor, of course!

She got an awesome Tinkerbell doll, which she is already obsessed with! And a rad Tinkerbell backpack!

After my Dad’s we headed to my Aunt’s house for dinner with the extended family. I managed to get my cousins to wrangle all their girls together for a second-cousins photo! It took forever to get them all together. The bigger girls were very cooperative, but Eleanor and Mia (who is just 4 months older that Eleanor) were partners in crime and kept escaping every time we put them in place!

We had to take a separate boys second-cousins photo because it was so difficult to get the girls to cooperate.

Until this visit Eleanor and Mia had pretty much ignored each other at every family function. Christmas Eve they finally discovered each other and immediately became the very best of friends!

Christmas Eve 2009

As I mentioned last week, I was sick with the flu. Not fun. I started feeling better on Christmas Eve, but Josh was just starting to feel sick. So, we decided to skip the festivities with my extended family. Neither of us was feeling up to chatting with everyone while watching Eleanor, and I didn’t want us to get all of my cousin’s little ones sick. My dad was hosting this year, so we waited until the extended family had left and headed over to his place for Christmas Eve gifts with the family. Since my parents are divorced we do Christmas Eve with my Dad, Christmas Morning at home, and Christmas dinner with my mom. It works out that Josh’s family is Jewish, I don’t think I could handle any more Christmas events.

Eleanor wore her lovely holiday dress and headband that my friend Megan bought her for her birthday. You may remember it from our Hanukkah post. We threw on some white tights to keep her warm and I found some matching sparkly shoes at Target, which we gave her as a Hanukkah gift. I hope you approve Megan!

You’ll notice that Eleanor went straight for the plate of cookies. She proceeded to lick the icing off of several and then run around like a crazy person. Neither Josh nor I had the energy to stop her. And, whatever, it’s Christmas, she can have sweets at Christmas. We’re not monsters, after all. At least not at Christmas.

And that was Christmas Eve. Pretty relaxed. You can tell by the way, my brother Emmett is lying on the floor. Super relaxed!

Tomorrow we’ll skip the usual Wordless Wednesday and have some words along with photos of Christmas morning!
