I’m very behind in my postings, so a very belated welcome to Michael Arellano Jr. and enthusiastic congratulations to new parents Mike and Melissa. Michael was born Friday May 30th, just two week after Melissa graduated from law school! He was 9lbs 3oz and 21 ½ inches. We met the very sleepy and very handsome Michael Jr. the Wednesday after he was born. Sorry there are no pictures, I know I was sick of everyone taking a bunch pictures when they came to meet Eleanor especially during the first week when I was not feeling so photogenic, so I did not bring my camera. Mom, Dad and baby were doing well and seemed to be adjusting to life as a threesome. Melissa is currently studying for the bar which she’ll take with me July 29-31. So good luck to Melissa, we all know she will pass! We love you Arellanos! Congratulations!

Sex and the City

I had my first girls’ night out since Eleanor was born. My best girlfriend Betsy and I had dinner and Lemondrop Martinis at The Whisper Lounge and then saw Sex and the City at the Grove on Saturday night. We had a lot of fun eating and talking and, being big Sex and the City fans, we both really enjoyed the movie. It was just what I hoped it would be — a big, fun, long episode of the show.

Josh meanwhile was at home putting Eleanor to bed all by himself for the first time. She usually falls asleep nursing and then I put her down in her crib asleep. Josh was able to get her to fall asleep while he gave her a bottle. He was pretty pleased that this worked so well. And I arrived home around 1am which was just in time for Eleanor to wake up for her middle of the night feeding (If I haven’t mentioned it before, she stopped sleeping through the night about a month after she started, just in time for me to have to study for finals and now the bar).

Farewell to the Higas

Last weekend our friends Nat, Syndi, and their daughter Sophi hosted a farewell dinner. Nat is a fellow law student who just graduated with me. He is originally from Hawaii and is now returning with his wife and daughter. Unlike some of his fellow graduates, he has a job waiting for him. We will all miss them greatly. They have been such good friends to us over the past three years. And they have hosted many wonderful parties, but Saturday’s was exceptional.
Syndi is a chef and as a goodbye she put together an amazing six-course dinner with wine pairings for each course. The food was truly delicious and the wine was perfect! We love you Syndi and as much as we will miss you, we may just miss your cooking even more!
