Mentryville with the Schuberts

Posted by: Maggie

Two Sundays ago we went out to Mentryville, a teeny tiny local old timey oil boom town. Thanks to Twitter, the Schuberts joined us! Unfortunately, half of the teeny tiny town was closed to the public that weekend. But we still had a good time rambling around the open portion.

Eleanor was obsessed with Amy that day. Which is funny because she’s generally a guy’s girl, and is usually obsessed with Andrew. But she kept asking Amy to hold her hand as we walked around and made Amy sit down in the mud with her, which was a good thing for me, because I did not want to sit in the mud.

We thought that Eleanor was going to let them take her home. What a nice little vacation that would have been!

But at the last minute she turned around and said, “C’mon Mommy!”

A Trip to the Zoo

The weekend after the Bar exam we decided to celebrate by taking Eleanor to the Los Angeles Zoo for the first time.

We had been meaning to go for months and that weekend was clear and sunny so we thought it would be the perfect time to go. The problem was that half the families in Los Angeles who had children thought the same thing. It was crowded and it turned out to be little hotter than we would have liked.

Luckily Eleanor has a tall Daddy who could hold her above the crowds to see the animals. She didn’t react much, but did seem to like the gorillas and the giraffes. She was actually more interested in the crowds of children.

Eleanor even made a new friend outside of the orangutan exhibit.

Like all new friends she meets she wanted to point out all of its body parts.  Like its teeth:

cheek:

eye:

and her favorite, nose:

By the end of the day Eleanor was exhausted.
