Two Sundays ago we went out to Mentryville, a teeny tiny local old timey oil boom town. Thanks to Twitter, the Schuberts joined us! Unfortunately, half of the teeny tiny town was closed to the public that weekend. But we still had a good time rambling around the open portion.

Eleanor was obsessed with Amy that day. Which is funny because she’s generally a guy’s girl, and is usually obsessed with Andrew. But she kept asking Amy to hold her hand as we walked around and made Amy sit down in the mud with her, which was a good thing for me, because I did not want to sit in the mud.

We thought that Eleanor was going to let them take her home. What a nice little vacation that would have been!

But at the last minute she turned around and said, “C’mon Mommy!”

I know I said I wasn’t taking Eleanor to the park anymore because of the whole sand eating thing, but really who was I kidding. She likes the park and needs to get outside so we’ve still been going several times a week. I do try to avoid the sand though. The problem with the park lately, however, has been the horrible heat. If we get there after ten it is not too fun. It doesn’t seem to bother Eleanor very much, but I’m not a fan. It feels like summer already and we still have three more weeks of spring. But, that’s what you get when you live in Southern California.
I was pretty excited when the June gloom rolled in a little early last week. We hit the park with our sweatshirts and new camera in hand for some exciting running like a crazy person and squirrel chasing without an oppressive sun beating down on us.

Eleanor got a little offended and a little frightened by the squirrels chasing each other on the tree behind her. They were making quite a racket. She got over it pretty quickly though and decided she should chase them.
